Mississauga North Baseball Association remains optimistic that our programs will be back in session in 2020

To the Mississauga North Baseball Community

May 15, 2020

The safety and well-being of our membership continues to be our top priority. We remain proactive in our approach given the frequency of new developments and will provide updates on league activities as time passes. We hope that you and your families are safe and healthy and are doing your best in coping with the on-going COVID-19 environment.
There have been 2 significant changes since our last update:
Baseball Ontario has cancelled all in-person baseball activities until May 31, 2020. and the Province of Ontario has extended the state of Emergency plan until June 1, 2020.
The Provincial Government announced on Thursday May 14, 2020 its 1 st stage of reopening and there are some reasons for optimism but nothing to confirm yet. Under Stage 1 of its reopening plan, certain outdoor sports fields and individual sports, such as cycling and golf, can resume. Team sports, such as baseball, are still under suspension but not cancelled. There is hope and hope is never a bad thing.
The City of Mississauga currently has all baseball fields closed until July 3, 2020. As those decisions are updated, we will announce our planning for baseball/softball activities for 2020.
With the fields closed until July 3 rd , all Baseball/Softball Tournaments scheduled for May and June will not take place on those dates.
These announcements do not alter our commitment to getting on our fields in 2020. With the as for mentioned announcements, at this time, the earliest any outdoor baseball/softball activity can take place is the first week of July.
With the rescheduling of our summer programs, any cancellations, refunds and credits may all be options for MNBA members. We will communicate what that will look like once it is finalized which should be by mid- June 2020.
Please rest assured that MNBA is working diligently to continue to provide a positive baseball/softball experience. We remain proactive in our approach and will continue to follow the advice of public health agencies in making decisions and only undertake actions when it is appropriate and safe to do so.
We acknowledge and express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to the healthcare workers, law enforcement agencies, essential services, governments and frontline workers who continue to work diligently in our best interests through this pandemic.
I urge everyone to listen to those in the medical community and do as has been recommended and/or mandated. It is how we can do our part to help contain and mitigate the spread of this deadly virus.
We remain committed to keeping you informed and you will find new information posted on our website and communicate with you via email.

Thank you

MEMO - Board of Directors MNBA re COVID-19

To all coaches, players and parents of the Mississauga North Baseball Association

The main objective of this communication is to ensure the safety of our players, coaches, parents, staff and our community as a whole as it pertains to COVID-19. We will align our decisions and seek guidance from our local health authorities and government guidelines which are all intended to slow the spread of the virus. Even if you are healthy, following basic hygiene measures can protect those who are vulnerable.
In light of ongoing developments resulting from COVID-19, and after reviewing multiple recommendations from Canadian medical organizations. We have decided as an organization to put the following measures in place effective immediately.

  • Only Coaches, Players, Board Members and Cleaning Staff will be allowed to enter MNBA facilities

  • Parents, relatives or family members must drop off players and return to pick them up after their training. Again to be picked up Outside any facility.

  • Members of the board will be monitoring the situation multiple times daily and will update with any changes.

  • If it is decided that the best course of action is to temporarily shut down all access to any facility, we will put together a plan that is fair for all teams.

The Health and Well Being of all our members will be first in mind with every decision made and we will continue to monitor all the appropriate medical advice, and we will encourage our players and other members of the MNBA community to take all reasonable precautions — including by self-quarantine, where appropriate.

We would like to share a statement from the World health Organization (WHO)

“For most people, the new coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia. The vast majority of people recover from the new virus.”

We appreciate the inconvenience this decision may cause, however the recent pandemic status of COVID-19 and its impact globally and locally has resulted in various changes to ensure best interests of the children, the parents, our coaches and all staff involved in mind.
There are numerous resources available on COVID-19, however we would direct you to the government website ( www.canada.ca ), if you wish to learn more about countries affected or other related information to COVID-19.
Below outlines some steps to take to limit your exposure and reduce the risk of infection:
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze; if you do not have tissues, cough or sneeze into your elbow
- Dispose of tissues after use
- Wash hands regularly with soap and water or with an alcohol-based gel if soap and water are unavailable
- Observe appropriate social distancing (e.g. avoid crowds, direct physical contact, don't shake hands, stay at home)
We appreciate your support and understanding during this COVID-19 pandemic, as we are dedicated to ensuring the safety of our athletes and community and hope to get back to the all things baseball related as soon as possible.

Your Board of Directors
