Welcome to the Diamond: A Newcomer’s Guide to Mississauga North Baseball

Welcome to Mississauga! We know that for many families, baseball is a new mystery. This guide is here to help you understand "Canada’s Summer Pastime" and how your child can join the MNBA family.

1. What exactly is Baseball? (Is it like Cricket?)

If you know Cricket, you already know 70% of baseball!

  • The Goal: Hit a ball with a bat and score "runs."

  • The Difference: Instead of running back and forth on a pitch, players run around four "bases" in a diamond shape.

  • The Pace: Baseball is faster! Most games are finished in under 1-2 hours, making it perfect for school nights.

2. My child has never played. Can they still join?

Yes! Our House League is designed specifically for beginners.

  • We focus on "Fun, Fitness, and Friendship."

  • Coaches are trained to teach the basics from scratch: how to hold a bat, how to catch with a glove, and how to run the bases.

  • Ages: We have programs for children as young as 3 (T-Ball) up to 18 years old.

3. What equipment do we need to buy?

You don't need a full kit to start!

  • What we provide: A team jersey and a baseball cap (which your child keeps!). We also provide the team bats, balls, and catching gear.

  • What you need: 1. A Baseball Glove (worn on the non-dominant hand). 2. A Batting Helmet. 3. Running shoes (specialized "cleats" are not required for beginners).

4. When and where are the games?

We play at beautiful parks across Northwest Mississauga (Meadowvale, Lisgar, Streetsville).

  • House League: Usually involves one game per week and one practice.

  • Indoor Training: During the winter, we offer clinics at "The Den" (our indoor facility at 6581 Kitimat Rd). It’s a great way to meet the community before the snow melts!

5. How much does it cost?

Registration fees typically range from $210 to $350 for the entire season (May to August).

  • Financial Support: We believe every child should play. We partner with Canadian Tire Jumpstart and KidSport to help families cover registration and equipment costs. Just ask us for help with the application!

6. Is it a safe sport?

Very! For our younger players (T-Ball and Rookie Ball), we use "soft-core" baseballs that are much lighter and safer than standard balls. All batters must wear helmets, and safety is our coaches' #1 priority.

7. How can parents get involved?

In Canada, baseball is a social event for the whole family! Parents often sit in lawn chairs along the sidelines, cheer for the team, and help with "snack duty." It is one of the fastest ways to make new friends in your neighborhood.
